Job Site Safety
If someone cares about their life and the people around them, safety is key. Safety is the most important thing to consider on a jobsite no matter what the case is. People have not been taking safety seriously but when something goes wrong, they don’t want to think back on it and know they could have been safer and prevented the incident. I wish more people would take it seriously because educating people on safety could prevent a lot of accidents.
One thing to consider while on a job site is to have warning signs posted. “Clear and concise signage is critical to for life safety.” Something as simple as having a hazard sign up can save a life. For example, if there wasn’t a high voltage sign posted up on something electrical, how are people supposed to know to be cautious around it? “Always make sure that emergency contact information is posted at several high-traffic locations on your site.” It is important to have a number to call if something goes wrong. Something as simple as having signs and emergency contacts posted can save a life.
Many people do not think about it, but they need to have a clear access for emergency vehicles. “You are required to maintain uninterrupted access to your construction site for emergency vehicles.” People need to prepare for the worst and make a clear pathway for vehicles. If an emergency vehicle does not have a clear pathway, firefighters or paramedics will not be able to do their job as efficiently. “Set up an alternate route at the same time you set up your main route.” It is smart to have a backup plan if something does not go as planned. Always be courteous to the people trying to help out.
On a job site, there will be times that the air you breathe in will not always be clean air. That is why you need to monitor the air quality control. “Construction and renovation can generate airborne dust, dirt, odors, and fumes that can compromise safety, especially at sensitive sites like hospitals.” If someone is inside a building, to control the air-quality someone is breathing is to have a one-way airflow out of an occupied areas and into constructions areas. “Always isolate construction areas with temporary partitions that are smoke-tight and non-combustible.” It is always a safe bet to keep an eye out for surroundings. Watch out for flammable stuff that catches fire easy because one spark can damage everyone’s life.
There is always someone in charge at a job site so before you start working, talk with your boss and coworkers to review your life-safety plans. “Your whole team needs to be apprised of the plans, so be sure to coordinate meetings with the owner, design team, construction managers, and construction safety officers.” Someone that is new to a job might not know about all the safety regulations so it would be smart to go over it before any job. “Keep your authority having jurisdiction up to date on any changes affecting the original plan that he or she approved, and always think of the AHJ as a valuable resource to help ensure safety for everyone at the site.” The most important thing on a job site is safety, if there is no communication, then there is no safety.
There have been horrifying accidents with people in the construction industry, so safety should be taken seriously. No one wants to live life knowing an accident could have been prevented if they would’ve been smarter. People want to just get the job done, but it is smarter if someone takes their time and consider their safety because you will get the job done a lot more efficiently. Accidents happen, even if you are being as safe as possible, so it’s best to take precaution when doing something that can cause harm. The job will get done if a person takes their time and be safe, so do not rush it so always remember, safety first.
