The story begins sometime in the eighteenth century on the English coast at the Admiral Benbow Inn in Black Hill Cove. The action shifts to Bristol, where Jim meets the captain of Hispaniola. The majority of the story takes place on treasure island. They get back on the Hispaniola and head back to Bristol.
Jim Hawkins- The narrator and interrogator of the most important plot twist. Jim’s character changes dramatically, showing increasing cleverness, courage, maturity, and perspective.
Dr. Livesey- He first appears to be an ideal authority figure for the young Jim. Jim entrusts the treasure map to Livesey because Livesey is a respected, knowledgeable man.
Long John Silver- He is what you would think a pirate as greedy, cutthroat, selfish. Wants to keep things for himself. He is willing to do anything to get what he wants. He was laying low as the Ships cook while his crew was being loyal to the captain of the ship. As the ship approached the island he assumed roll as the leader of the pirates and from that pint forward he was out to get the treasure for him and his fellow pirates.
The book chronicles a treasure hunt. Through the journey that beginning of a discovery of a map, young Jim and Dr. Livesey experienced the sea, mutiny , a battle against a competing pirate crew, the joy of finding the treasure.
