What is WRAP?
WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) is a group of tools that those of us with behavioral health challenges use to understand and manage our illness.
Upcoming WRAP Events at NAMI Mercer NJ
Fall WRAP Workshop
NAMI Mercer will present their annual Fall WRAP Workshop every Wednesday evening beginning September 28th. This evidence based practice workshop runs for 8 consecutive Wednesday evenings. The workshop will meet from 6:00-8:30 PM at NAMI Mercer in Lawrenceville, NJ. This WRAP workshop covers all aspects of WRAP in great detail. For example, we spend 2 sessions just developing wellness tools. We spend another 2 sessions working on crisis planning.
This workshop is only for those of us who have been diagnosed with a mental illness. WRAP as evidence based practice is facilitated by peers for the peers in the workshop.
Advance registration is required for this workshop. Seating for this popular workshop is limited. Please contact us at 609-799-8994 x19 to register. There is no charge for this workshop - NAMI Mercer offers this as a public service to the community.
3rd Annual Holiday WRAP
On Saturday, November 19th NAMI Mercer will present our 3rd annual Holiday WRAP. This one day workshop focuses on using WRAP techniques to deal with holiday stress. The workshop is open to anyone (not just peers) wishing to learn a few techniques to help deal with holiday stress.
This workshop is held at NAMI Mercer in Lawrenceville, NJ. The room opens at 8:30 AM and the workshop starts at 9:00 AM. The workshop typically ends at 3:00 PM. Coffee and pastry are served in the morning and a light lunch is provided.
Online WRAP Support
NAMI Mercer is now offering an online WRAP support group meeting. The group meets from 7:00-8:00 PM Eastern every Thursday evening. The group is open to everyone who has an interest in learning more about WRAP.
We focus on successes in using our WRAP, questions about how to use our WRAP, and when there is time, discussion about the different parts of WRAP. Please join us and share your understanding of WRAP with the group.

Hope – A WRAP Key Recovery Concept
WRAP has five key recovery concepts. The first one is Hope. The others are Personal Responsibility, Education, Self-Advocacy, and Support. In this issue we will talk a bit about hope.
Why is hope so important to our recovery from behavioral health challenges? One person in recovery said:
This is such difficult work. If I don’t have hope that things are going to get better, then I don’t have any reason to do the work.
We recently heard a clinician say:
Recovery must start with hope. Hope is where it all begins. That’s how people learn that there is the possibility of a better day.
We heard this said in a recent workshop:
Hope is what gets me out of bed in the mornings. This is such hard work. My hope is that I will learn something today that will get me a little closer to being happy all the time.
Each of us finds our own reason for hope. It does not matter what it is, as long as we have one. My personal hope is to find a way to take a half step forward each day. It may be slow, but it can be steady. The half step that I take today gives me hope that tomorrow I can take another half step forward.
