Met with facilitator to sign forms, discuss the product being developed and planning out how to reach it. Review product options of choosing a new locker design, redesigning the cafeteria, and several other choices. Decided upon resigning the floor plan and furniture of the cafeteria.
Feel really confident in my plans at the moment, I have just received information on how to do almost everything I need. All of my measurements should be easy to record and I may be able to send out a survey during a lunch period on improvements that could be made to the cafeteria. If I try to keep the current walls and pillars within the cafeteria I may be able to submit this as an actual solution.
Took measurements of the perimeter of the cafeteria and began a basic outline of the cafeteria, with the help of a friend.
Measurements took longer than expected to work, there are many odd angles within the cafeteria, more than I would have thought, the walls by the trash and by exit door next to the food lines both look unnecessary.
Edited initial drawings to be clearer and more precise, with angles and proportions. Wrote down the desired goals of the product.
The cafeteria seems a little too small to make the desired changes effective, so I will have to blow out the walls and expand the existing floor. I am toying with the thought of and open cafeteria, no walls between the main hall and dining area.
Downloaded AUTOCAD to my personal computer and began to play around with the new technology to familiarize myself with the new technology and practiced mapping out the current floor plan.
The download itself took way longer than expected, about 2 hours on its own, however I do enjoy the tools that are on it. Without a X-Y Axis plot system on it, this project would've been too difficult to design, because it would have to be by hand.
Took measurements of tables, columns and stage platform. Also posed for pictures for my pictorial log.
The picture taking seems a little frugal to me personally. However I never seem to have enough information for my final draft of the existing plans.
Met with facilitator and discussed needed elements within my existing plans and methods of finding improvement. I needed to add wall thickness and markings for doors, columns, windows, vending, and tables. I also decided on my method and questions for improvements.
There are soooo many factors that are needed for a proper drawing. I have friends that know their way around AUTOCad better than I do. I may need them to come and help me learn how to smooth this out.
Went to the library and hooked up my laptop to the new projectors and continued editing the alignment of the rear of the cafeteria, trying to correct my calculations. Because of work I decided on waiting until Thursday to take new measurements. A friend also came in and gave me pointers on how to easier add the exterior walls to my design.
Took a friend with me to the lunchroom to record new data on the interior walls and hopefully correct the miscalculation in that portion of my design.
Plugged in new data and verified the need for aid in creating the outer walls and how to enter the tables into the cafeteria. Plan on asking my friend to come over on the weekend to help me with this. Almost ready to call my facilitator for another meeting and to discuss ways to fill in the remaining hours for my project.
Took measurements of the walls near the food lines in the rear of the café and distance between pillars on the barriers and the floor and then proceeded to plan about type of table and furniture structure that I will use in the remodeling process.
I feel that students may want an outside-food student lead vending inside the cafeteria as well so I will add booths on the window sides of the cafeteria to give them an easy way to draw in more students.
Inserted final information and proceeded to start and finish the designing process under my facilitator’s supervision with a textbook on average human proportions to use on the furniture and table size for increased accuracy.
This was definitely my most favorite part of the project, it lets me be creative and free to liven up the room. It made all my ideas come to life, on paper at the least, however this type of work is a bit too much for me to be able to handle on a daily basis and I will not be further pursuing this career choice into college.
