Directions for Becoming an Affiliate of AMSTI AMSTI provides intensive grade and subject specific professional development for teachers in AMSTI schools. To help teachers continue their professional development beyond our two years of Summer Institutes, we would like to suggest other high-quality opportunities using a “menu-based” approach. Once designated as an AMSTI Affiliate, AMSTI teachers will be encouraged to participate in your trainings and receive CEU credit. Participation in any of the AMSTI Affiliate programs by AMSTI Schools’ teachers is strictly voluntary. If your organization is interested in the AMSTI Affiliate: 1. Review the selection criteria below. Important: Please note that AMSTI Affiliate programs must be self-supporting; AMSTI does not provide financial support for Affiliates. 2. Download and complete the AMSTI Affiliate application. 3. Upon selection, your organization will be notified and your professional development offerings will be communicated to teachers in the spring of each school year, as appropriate. Selection Criteria: Organizations must meet all of the criteria listed below in order to become an AMSTI Affiliate and thus be eligible to be offered to year three and beyond schools as an AMSTI-approved professional development opportunity. • Show how materials/activities are aligned with the Alabama Course of Study • Include problem solving as well as critical thinking strategies following the AMSTI model of hands-on experiences • Provide materials for teachers who attend • Assess no cost to AMSTI for the activity • Offer follow-up or technical assistance to teachers who attend • Train AMSTI Site Specialists on the activities during the school year (as appropriate and if needed) • Present science/math concepts in a factual manner as consistent with the majority of the scientific community • Apply best math and science instructional practice Disclaimer: Whereas AMSTI reviews programs that submit to become AMSTI Affiliates and will do its best to select programs that appear to meet the criteria listed below, please understand that AMSTI Affiliate programs operate independently of AMSTI.
