Connectivity Microsoft Data Access Components: Data Source name not found...
SYMPTOMS
You receive the following error when you launch SOAPware.
The Microsoft(tm) ODBC connection experienced the following
error:
Data source name not found and no default driver specified
Location - Create User DB Connection Cache
CAUSE
The ODBC Data Source Administrator doesn't have the mappings for one or all of the SOAPware Databases. Each SOAPware database needs to have a DSN mapping to access the databases. This most likely is because "Client Database Setup" has never been run.
SOLUTION
Run the client Connection Tool
To Start the Client Connection Tool, Click Start, All Programs, SOAPware, then
Client Database Setup (the icon is a bulls-eye target).
On the SOAPware Database Setup screen, select the server that you would like to
connect to from the "Server Name" drop down box. For example, on a default MSDE
installation it would be "ServerName\SWDATA".
Then Select the SQL Server Authentication Method.
Unless you have a SQL Server Administrator who has added accounts and set the
proper permissions on your SQL/MSDE server, we highly recommend Selecting “With
SQL Server authentication”. If you have not had a SQL Server Administrator setup
accounts in MSDE/SQL, we recommend selecting, “With SQL Server authentication”.
Note: Most sites will select, “With SQL Server authentication.”
Click the Add DSNs button; the DSNs that your computer uses to connect to the
SOAPware databases will be added.
After you see the DSNs added successfully message box, Click OK. Then exit the
SOAPware Database Setup screen.
SOAPware is now ready to run on this Client Computer!
Note: You will have to repeat the steps on each machine that reports this error.
This article assumes that you have installed a MSDE server or a SQL Standard
server and have installed the SOAPware DataManager.
For users on Access Databases only: This message can usually be remedied
by running PSetup from the SOAPware\Data directory on your server. TOpen up My
Computer. If you are on a network, open the drive on your server where your
databases are found.. (If you can't see that drive, or it has a red X through
its icon, you aren't connected to the network. Connect to the network and the
message should go away). If you are not on a network, open your C drive. Double
click on the SOAPware folder, then on the Data folder. There will be a program
called PSetup. Double-click on that program, and it should tell you "SOAPware
databases have been installed and setup". Restart SOAPware and you're ready to
go! For more information on PSetup, go to
